Figurative arts, architecture, Sacri Monti, music, gardens, food and wine: these are the key elements of a fairy tale journey through signs and styles, which in the Seventeenth and Eighteenth centuries left testimony of great beauty. It is a heritage that in 2020 will be revealed to visitors and residents through great exhibitions, concert performances, guided tours, workshops, cultural experience and special openings.
Over 200 events in Turin and all over Piedmont which make up the fabric of "L’essenziale è Barocco" (Essentially Baroque), the project developed in occasion of the great exhibition Defying the Baroque. Rome Turin Paris 1680 – 1750, that will be held from May 30 to September 20, 2020 in the magnificent interiors of the Juvarra’s Citroniera at Reggia di Venaria, with over 200 masterpieces from the most prestigious museums and collections around the world. The exhibition, conceived by the Fondazione 1563 per l’Arte e la Cultura (Foundation 1563 for Art and Culture), with the support of the Compagnia di San Paolo and organized by the Consorzio delle Residenze Reali Sabaude and Reggia di Venaria, will be a fascinating and surprising journey, where the experimentation developed between Rome and Paris, the two poles of attraction of modern Europe, saw Turin engage in a deep dialogue of ideas and exchange of artworks and artists, in a momentous renewal season for international arts.
The events program, conceived by Regione Piemonte, is realized by VisitPiemonte and enriched by the contribution of Fondazione Compagnia di San Paolo and by a range of cultural initiatives proposed by local institutions.
The program is additionally carried out in close collaboration with the City of Turin, the Consorzio delle Residenze Reali Sabaude and the Reggia di Venaria, with the support of FAI (the National Trust for Italy) – Piedmont and Valle d’Aosta Delegations, the Fondazione Torino Musei (Turin Museums Foundation) and the Associazione Abbonamento Musei (Association Museum Pass), and the participation of associations, cultural institutions, public and private institutions located all over the territory among which: ATL - Agenzie Turistiche Locali (Local Tourism Agencies), Associazioni delle Guide Turistiche Federagit (Tourist Guide Associations) and GIA (Trade association of tourist guides, interpreters and tour leaders in the regional territory of Piedmont), the Soprintendenza Archeologica Belle Arti e Paesaggio (Authority of Archaeology Fine Arts and Landscape), Museum Institutions and Foundations, Musical associations, the Commissione regionale per i beni artistici culturali della Diocesi (the regional commission for artistic and cultural heritage of the Diocese) and the trade associations, including hoteliers, commerce and tradesmen, industrialists. A truly widespread project involving the entire region.
