Biella’s candidacy as UNESCO Creative City

Biella has applied to join to UNESCO Creative City Network under the category “Crafts and Folk Arts”.

Biella application to UNESCO is founded on a vital tradition of “know-how” and Biella’s passion for the textile and weaving art, which has made of the city a “Manchester of Italy” (as Camillo Benso Count of Cavour called it). Today Biella is a perfect ambassador of Made in Italy in the world, thanks to its extraordinary immaterial heritage and high-quality brands.

Founded on a vital tradition of “know-how” enriched by high technology, the candidate city aims to promote the entire Biellese area, its industrial tradition and its art and nature heritage, such as cutting-edge centers such as the Cittadellarte Fondazione Pistoletto and the MACIST - Museo d'Arte Contemporanea Internazionale Senza Tendenze.
