In 2023 the great masters of international photographic art will be featured in Turin and Piedmont with a series of truly unmissable exhibitions.
Eve Arnold. The Work 1950 - 1980
From 25 February to 4 June, CAMERA – Centro Italiano per la Fotografia (Italian Centre of Photography) inaugurates the 2023 season with an extraordinary homage to the famous American photographer Eve Arnold, the first woman, along with Inge Morath, to be part of the historic Magnum Agency. From her debut in black and white to the colour images she took at the age of 85, over 150 photos summarise her career, from shots dedicated to the great stars of cinema and show business (in particular, her collaboration with Marilyn Monroe) to the great themes of the 20th century.
Elliott Herwitt - Family
Personally selected by the author, the series of black and white photographs exhibited in the ancient kitchens of the Palazzina di Caccia in Stupinigi offers a varied slice of life from the most diverse environments of the world, an exciting journey through the work and life of an artist who has made contemporary photographic history. Ruth Orkin A new discovery
From 17 March to 15 July at the Sale Chiablese of the Royal Museums the largest anthological exhibition ever organised in Italy of the entire work of Ruth Orkin, the American photojournalist, photographer and filmmaker, whose story has remained hidden until now. More than 40 years of European and world history will be on show, from shots pervaded by the atmosphere of 1950s American films such as Roman Holiday, to the now iconic portraits of the world of Hollywood or New York.
Franco Garelli – Anthological exhibition
At the MEF - Museo Ettore Fico in Turin, from 23 March to 2 July, the great retrospective and monographic exhibition on Franco Garelli (Diano d'Alba 1909 - Turin 1973), considered by critics to be the greatest 20th-century representative of informal art in Italy. Over 100 works will be on display, including paintings, iron, bronze and sheet metal sculptures, ceramics and the innovative Plamec (three-dimensional paintings in plastic material).
Maria Vittoria Backhaus - My tales beyond fashion
My tales of photography beyond fashion is the major anthological exhibition dedicated to the brilliant creative personality of Maria Vittoria Backhaus, from her beginnings in the 1970s to her contemporary work, with a wide selection of images created for fashion, design and portraiture. From 31 March to 11 June 2023, in the Second Floor Rooms of the Castle of Casale Monferrato (AL).
Aspettando THE PHAIR – Photo Art Fair Torino…
The 4th edition of the international exhibition on the language of photography, from 5 to 7 May in Padiglione Nervi at Torino Esposizioni, will open a week of initiatives and artistic projects in museums, galleries, foundations, public and private spaces, related to the numerous forms of image.

Open until 5 March at the Rotonda dei Talucchi of the Accademia Albertina in Turin, Bandiera gialla - Le epidemie e le cure nella storia, nella scienza, nell'arte (Yellow Flag - Epidemics and cures in history, science and art) is a historical itinerary that starts from the period of the "black plague" of the 14th century up to the three years of CoViD-19, with a careful scientific analysis of diseases, their spread and the cures that medicine has succeeded in developing.
Until 30 March in Alba (CN), the Ferrero Alba Foundation is hosting Jacques Lartigue - The Invention of Happiness, an exhibition - photographic tale of great history and everyday moments, with an unusual chapter dedicated to the Langhe, the birthplace of the third, young wife of the dashing Belle Époque photographer.

Until 16 April, GAM - Galleria d'Arte Moderna (Gallery of Modern Art) presents Wavelength, 1967/2003 and Cover to Cover, 1975, a film and a book considered to be two masterpieces in the history of cinema and the artist's book, a perfect synthesis of the visual thought of Michael Snow (Toronto, 1928-2023).

Until 16 July 2023, the Gallerie d'Italia Turin will host for the first time in Italy a site-specific work by the French artist in the approximately 4,000 square metres of the new venue for the promotion of trends between photography and digital art, a project of creative synthesis between street art, photography and video installations dedicated to significant contemporary issues.
